Welcome to the MLK Memorial DC Host Committee Website

The DC Host Committee, in partnership with the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc., is committed to helping commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. King in the dedication celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial.

In that spirit, the DC Host Committee has three specific objectives. The first is to welcome the world to the nation’s capital for the MLK Memorial Dedication ceremony, October 14-16, 2011, by hosting, out-of-town visitors, and identifying events that are free to the public during the MLK Memorial Dedication week. Visit the “Events” section on our site for a listing of activities.

The second is to embrace Dr. King’s declaration that “now is the time to make real the promise of democracy” and ” . . . to make justice and freedom a reality for all citizens in the District of Columbia” by promoting awareness of the District’s struggle for self-determination, autonomy and statehood through a Freedom March, creative messaging, and the production of celebrity PSA’s. The DC Host Committee encourages all to participate and we are seeking volunteers to help in this struggle of awareness. More information about D.C. Statehood is available on our site.

And finally, to embrace Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision and timeless beliefs in Freedom, Democracy and Opportunity for All and to connect all who attend the historic significance of the memorial dedication.
